A Heritage in London Property.
Dickens was founded upon a heritage of property experts dating from 1932. Now in its fourth generation ‘The Dickens Group’ has restored, redeveloped, sold and acquired real estate across London and the South East.
Please see the timeline below.
Cornford Brothers 1932
The Cornford Brothers, the first generation, originating circa 1932, laid the foundation for a lasting legacy. Charles and Leslie Cornford, gained recognition for their skill and craftsmanship, making a impact on landmark property construction in London.
During World War II, the government directed the Cornford Bros to stay in London. They played a pivotal role in rebuilding predominantly residential streets instead of being enlisted for war service.
Their craftsmanship was instrumental in restoring many pubs in South East London, preserving their historic charm. These enduring establishments stand today as a testament to the family's skill and expertise in development. This invaluable tradition was passed onto Charlie of Dickens Developments, who began his apprenticeship with his grandfather Charles at the age of fourteen. He learnt many building trades and the value of quality workmanship.
Dickens Developments 1984
Established in 1984 by father and son Terrence and Charles Robert Dickens, and later joined by Charles’ wife Kathleen; Dickens Developments has built a solid reputation in London and has been recognised as an award winning Contractor.

With a portfolio boasting over ninety developments, the family business has successfully converted numerous spaces into homes, accommodating a diverse clientele, ranging from first-time buyers to those in search of luxurious exclusive residences spanning 10,000 sq ft.
Currently, the reins of the company are held by the fourth generation – Frank, Charlotte, and Kate Dickens. Charles and Kathleen remain actively engaged in the business, ensuring a continued commitment to quality and innovation that serves as a driving force in shaping London's real estate landscape for the foreseeable future.
From the year 2000, Dickens Developments were commissioned to redevelop residential streets in Lambeth by 'London & Quadrant,’ Housing Trust.
